Starting new relationships with prospects is not easy in any business. Freight brokers often have difficulties keeping up with the fast-moving industry and staying in the game. But one thing is sure- there is a great chance you will make money in it. Over time you will learn what works and what doesn’t. Here are some tips on how to find quality leads as a freight broker:
Have a quote, for example three new contacts, which you need to find every day. In this industry not all people will stay with you at all times, so it’s good to have new contacts all the time. Some may stay, others may go, or maybe even come back. But the important things is that you constantly seek and pursue new prospects.
Don’t call someone without making a little research. The conversation needs to be about them- so make sure they realize that. You have to show them that the call is important to you, and you have to offer something to your prospects. Nowadays it’s easy- you can Google everything and find useful information.
Also, can gain a great deal of knowledge from their salespeople, so use that opportunity to ask them questions about what they do and how they do it. Ask them what lanes they ship, or what states they operate in.
Make friends if you have to. When the conversation is warm, people are more likely to do business with you. You should establish this from the very beginning, and keep contact with them. Learn about their previous work, ask questions and engage in conversations.
Not everyone will like you or want to make business with you. It’s totally normal to be rejected; the key is to keep going. Remember the quote we talked about in the first mark? Continue with it and you will do good.
The industry is hard and only the persistent will survive in it. Stay focused on your end goal. And don’t forget to take notes while you call people. It’s normal to get confused over who said what, and you wouldn’t want to call someone twice and bother them with the same conversation.
